What are the lessons learned from John Chapter 15? ›

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered: Jesus warned His disciples that failing to abide means that life fails. A branch only has life as it is connected to the stock of the vine; a disciple only spiritually lives as they are connected to the Master.

The NASB is an original translation from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. It is an update of the American Standard Version (ASV) of 1901, which itself was a revision of the 1885 Revised Version (RV), which updated the King James Version (KJV).

NASV is one of the most literal and accurate translations around. It was designed for scholars and others who need as accurate a text as possible. While the NIV is one of the most readable and understandable translations. There are always differences between language.

The editors of the NASB tell us they intend "to give the English reader a rendering as close as possible to the sense of the original Greek and Hebrew texts," but The Message is meant "to engage people in the reading process and help them understand what they read.

In this allegory are two important principles: First, we must be grounded in Christ. If we are not, we will not be fruitful (see John 15:4). If our lives are not in harmony with the teachings of the Savior, it is no more likely that we will bear good fruit than that a branch cut off from a vine will bear fruit.

The sovereign choice of Jesus in John 15:16 is not a choice of some out of the mass of humanity to receive eternal life, but rather, the choice of some out of all His followers and disciples to have a deeper fellowship with Him so that they might serve Him and become more productive followers.

It is Jesus, himself, who reveals the symbols found in John 15:1–17. We have the Vinedresser who represents the Father and cultivates his plants, the True Vine who represents Jesus and the fruit's vital life source, and the branches who represent the disciples and who determine the result of fruit.
