Is college the only path to achievement? This recent Good Morning America piece on high school seniors deciding between college and trade schools sparked a great conversation (https://lnkd.in/ez3E-MBF). Automotive, electrical, plumbing, and welding are gaining popularity among young adults, which is understandable as college tuition climbs near $100,000 a year. But what if I told you there's expanding field with amazing career opportunities – clean energy, and specifically wind energy?Watching this piece, I was surprised to hear no mention of clean energy professions, despite the fact that wind technician is the fastest growing career category in the United States according to the BLS. For young people seeking a stable and rewarding career path, wind energy offers a compelling combination of factors:🚀 Fast Growth: As wind power becomes an increasingly critical part of the energy mix, the demand for skilled wind energy technicians is sky high.🛣️ Clear Progression Pathways: Wind energy careers offer well-defined paths for advancement, with opportunities to move into leadership, engineering, operations management, health and safety, education, and sales.💸 Low Cost of Entry: Trade schools and certificate programs can provide the necessary skills and qualifications to enter the wind energy field at a significantly lower cost than a traditional four-year college degree.💚Fulfilling Work: A career in wind energy allows you to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.I firmly believe in the importance of higher education, but there's numerous paths to achievement. While college remains a viable choice, the trades provide a distinct set of benefits. Interested in Clean Energy Careers? The United State Department of Energy has announced a new $24 million funding opportunity for #cleanenergy and #manufacturingworkforce #training programs. For this program, #uniontrainingprograms #communitycolleges, #tradeschools, and other job training programs can establish new industrial training and assessment centers, which can provide opportunities ranging from micro- credentials to #RegisteredApprenticeships. Go to ENERGYWERX to learn more and to apply: https://lnkd.in/eqexiepuThis funding is made possible by President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). In 2023, through the BIL, DOE established new Industrial Assessment Centers to provide hands-on training to prepare participants for in-demand jobs in the energy future like #hvacr professionals and #advancedmanufacturing technicians. Now, DOE’s Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains is releasing up to $24 million in funding to continue growing the network, in collaboration with DOE’s Partnership Intermediary, ENERGYWERX and the Office of Energy Justice and Equity. The Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board #workforcedevelopment

Get to know some of the #LocalPeopleServingYou at Berkeley Electric. It’s time to #MeetTheManager. Patrick Gailey, director of safety and technical training, has worked for the co-op for nearly 12 years!𝙄𝙣 𝙖 𝙣𝙪𝙩𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙡, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙙𝙤?“Safety and Technical Training helps to develop and implement BEC & BPC programs, from SDS (safety data sheets) to lineman training, we are involved in most aspects of the cooperative’s day-to-day.”𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙟𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙭 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙨?“We recently went through our RESAP inspection, and our BEC employees did a great job. Although we have not received our final report, the team conducting our inspection was very complimentary not only of our work practices but also of our employees’ attitude and engagement. This accomplishment was not only for our Safety & Training team but our cooperative as a whole which made it even better.”𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙪𝙥𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙨? “Kenny Infinger and Teddy Jeffords have taken point on assisting with this semester's Electrical Line Worker class (ELW) at Trident Tech and have worked hard on assisting to instruct a large group. The ELW showcase is scheduled for November 16 and will give the students a chance to show what they have learned. 16 students are set to graduate this semester in a class that is only supposed to hold 18.”𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢?“A lot of people see safety as something that happens after the fact. calling us after something goes wrong. We try to handle things before their problems and address issues before they arise. We definitely want to be involved on the forefront of issues rather than the backside.”𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙮/ 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤-𝙤𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙪𝙨 𝙛𝙖𝙧? “As far as memories go, there’s a lot…starting as an apprentice lineman, then spending 1.5 years in substation, then finishing the lineman apprenticeship on a systemwide crew. Then I took over as technical trainer and got more heavily involved with the apprenticeship and the safety manual, then the merger of safety and technical training where I am now. But the best part is working with the people, from the inside to the outside there are just good people here at BEC.”#Safety #PowerOn #TechnicalTraining #MeetTheManager

🌟 Exciting News Alert! 🌟 The U.S. Department of Energy is offering a $24 million funding opportunity for clean energy job training programs that don't need a four-year degree! 💡 Community colleges, trade unions, and labor management partnerships can now apply for funding to create Industrial Assessment Centers, providing energy assessments for manufacturers and hands-on learning for students and workers. 🛠️ With a focus on non-degree job paths, the Biden Administration's initiative aims to boost job opportunities without requiring a college education. 🎓 Prioritizing community colleges and trade unions, the program managed by ENERGYWERX offers three funding tracks to support these vital sectors. 🤝 While the push for non-degree job pathways is commendable, challenges still exist in expanding apprenticeship training and job prospects for non-degreed individuals. The impact of these initiatives on job opportunities and educational paths for those without bachelor's degrees remains to be seen. 🚀 Let's stay tuned for the positive changes ahead! #CleanEnergy #JobOpportunities #WorkforceTraining #BidenAdministration #AJPerkins #MicrogridMentor 💼

🚨🪠🛠️⚙️🧰🗜️🚨Smart! This generation is trending back to the #skilledtrades. #cte programs across the country prepare these students with the #technicalskills required. The initial pay and apprenticeship model is also a favorable part of the movement, leading more students down the vocational training path. Kudos to The Wall Street Journal for shedding light on this movement back to these career paths. My favorite takeaway:‘Demand for trade apprenticeships, which let students combine work experience with a course of study often paid for by employers, has boomed lately. In a survey of high school and college-age people by software company Jobber last year, 75% said they would be interested in vocational schools offering paid, on-the-job training.’#communitycollege #workforcedevelopment #industry4.0
